It began in earnest in 2019.
Back in the 90’s and after my art teacher told me “don’t bother carrying on”, I’d given up any notion of being creative.
But then a crazy thought, a chance conversation and a mad holiday started to change everything. I’ve now completed over 100 works and twice exhibited.
So what happened? In autumn 2018 I had what I’d call a false start. I spoke to a talented friend of mine who suggested I give painting a go. But I was so ashamed at how dreadful my first attempt was that I quietly watched my billy basic equipment gather dust.
In early 2019 I then re-started my artistic adventure mostly by chance after being taken to an art class whilst on holiday. I did not relish the prospect until I was told that it would involve wine... after two hours of painting and a glass or four, I produced a painting of a tropical sunset. The class was very tutor-led, so the creativity I added was minimal.
But I got back home and pondered... is this a new interest? Should I bother? What if? Why not? A new hobby? So I did what everyone does and bought lots of bits and pieces - and then immediately got a creative block. I was also reminded that I was told “not to bother doing GCSE Art”.
So all of this is suddenly a bit of a “f*ck you” to my art teacher Mr Clayton. You can kiss my ass!!
Soon enough though I began to find things that interested me, from colours to shapes to my favourite sweets, and >50 pieces later (and some concrete) I now have a problem deciding what not to do.
Honestly though, if it wasn’t for these two friends giving me that first nudge - and several others offering me some encouragement - I likely would never have got going, so thank you.
I am still learning so be kind and I hope you enjoy looking through my first ever portfolio.
Cheers!
